Former State Comptroller Says Veteran Prosecutor Is Tough, Fair, Innovative Crime Fighter
(AUSTIN) — Former State Comptroller John Sharp, a nationally recognized expert on making government do more with less, today endorsed veteran prosecutor Rosemary Lehmberg for Travis County District Attorney, saying she is uniquely qualified to build on the legacy of innovative leadership that the community has come to expect under retiring DA Ronnie Earle.
“I know top-notch public service when I see it, and I know that Rosemary is ready to take the helm of this critical office,” Sharp said. “She is tough, fair, and innovative.”
Sharp said the Travis County District Attorney’s office under Earle’s and Lehmberg’s leadership has set the standards for innovative anti-crime programs, children’s advocacy, and efficient operations that hold the line on taxpayer costs while safeguarding vital services.
As State Comptroller, Sharp developed a close working relationship with Lehmberg on cases referred by the state office to the district attorney’s staff for prosecution.
Longtime DA Ronnie Earle announced last month that he will not run again after three decades. Lehmberg has been with him since he first took office and has managed the daily operations and caseload for the past 10 years.
The Democratic primary is set for March 4, 2008. The general election is November 4, 2008.
